Northeast Metro Tech Working with Wakefield Police to Investigate Possible Social Media Threat

School to Open on Normal Schedule Wednesday, Sept. 15

WAKEFIELD — Superintendent David DiBarri and Wakefield Police Chief Steven A. Skory report that police are currently investigating a possible social media threat against the school.

At approximately 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, district officials were notified by a student who reported that they heard a possible threat made by an anonymous person on Snapchat. It is unclear at this time if the threat was directed at the school.

Police have spoken to the student who reported their concern and are actively investigating the situation.

After conferring with the Wakefield Police, district officials have determined that school will open at the normal time and schedule on Wednesday, Sept. 15.

Out of an abundance of caution, there will be an increased police presence at school tomorrow. The district will continue to assist and cooperate with the Wakefield Police as they continue their investigation into the matter.

“The safety and well-being of our students, faculty, and staff is one of our top priorities and we thank the Wakefield Police Department for their assistance in this matter,” said Superintendent DiBarri.

Notifications will be made if there are any updates or further information available.
