On Wednesday, September 24, students explored the many opportunities available at Northeast at the Clubs and Activities Fair, held in the library during lunches. From leadership and community service to culture and creativity, there was something for everyone. Joining a club is a great way to meet new people, build skills, and get involved in the school community.

One skill/lesson you’ve learned at Northeast that you’ll take with you: I have learned effective communication techniques at Northeast. I plan to take this skill with me once I graduate, it will be a lifelong lesson.

Plans after graduation: I will be going right into the field of Carpentry to work. I plan to focus on residential carpentry.

We are proud to recognize Mandy Lan (Wakefield), a senior in Design and Visual, Northeast SADD President, and National Honor Society member, for her selection to the National Text Less Live More Engagement Board. Mandy is lending her voice to a campaign dedicated to saving lives by raising awareness about the dangers of distracted driving. She is collaborating with students across the country to lead national projects on distraction prevention and is taking charge in the GetLiving campaign. Congratulations to Mandy on this incredible achievement. Let’s join her in taking a stand: “Text Less. Live More.”

We are excited to introduce our class officers, who will work together throughout the year to plan events, fundraisers, and activities that bring their class together and build school spirit. Congratulations to the following students:

September has been a busy and exciting month for the Early Childhood Education program. Students prepared the Little Knights Learning Lab to welcome 15 preschoolers, ages 3–5, for a positive start to the school year. Families attended an Open House where children toured their classroom and met their teachers before the first day. Students also enjoyed a visit from guest speaker Mrs. Jen Bartlett, a kindergarten teacher, who shared her experiences and inspired them to think about the many rewards of a career in education.

The Auto Body and Auto Tech shops are once again collaborating with Second Chance Cars, a nonprofit that provides affordable used cars to working people in need. Two vehicles (pictured below), a Honda CRV and a Toyota Camry, were recently delivered. Auto Tech students and staff will evaluate and complete any needed mechanical repairs before the cars move on to Auto Body for bodywork and paint. This partnership continues to provide a meaningful way for our students to give back while applying their skills.

History was made on Wednesday, September 24, as Northeast Esports competed in their first official match ever, playing Super Smash Brothers, and won the first game. Congratulations to our team on this exciting accomplishment and strong start to their program.

The Junior/Senior Homecoming Dance will take place on Friday, October 10, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Northeast Cafeteria. Tickets are $20 each and will be available for purchase in cafeteria during lunches through Friday, September 26. This event is for current NEMT Grade 11 and 12 students only. Expectations have been shared with students and are outlined in the NEMT Event Contract. 

Important Reminders: 

➤ Students must submit a signed contract to Student Council Co-Advisors Ms. Van Magness or Mr. Fitzgerald.

➤ Tickets will not be sold at the door.

➤ Students should dress to impress.

➤ Upon request, students may be asked to empty their pockets and have their belongings checked.

➤ Bags and backpacks are not permitted.

➤ No entry after 6:30 p.m. and no early dismissal before 7:30 p.m. unless pre-approved by a dean.

➤ All school rules apply, as outlined in the Student Handbook.

➤ Friday is a school day; students are expected to attend school in order to attend the event.

➤ We ask that all parents/guardians plan to pick up their students promptly at the end of the event. Please plan to arrive at Northeast just before 8:00 p.m.

On Tuesday, October 28, Grade 11 students have the opportunity to participate in the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT). The exam will be administered digitally, and test takers must arrive at school with their Chromebooks fully charged.

Cost: The cost for the PSAT is $18 (nonrefundable).

Sign-up Information: Grade 11 students who wish to take the PSAT must sign up using their Northeast email account by Friday, September 26 through this link. After completing the online registration, payment should be submitted to the Business Office.

Students are encouraged to prepare by reviewing test information and completing practice tests. A brief preparation video is available, and students can also access Official Digital SAT Prep through Khan Academy.

After-school academic support is offered for all subjects. Students can get the extra help they need to succeed, whether it’s for a challenging class, test preparation, or Early College courses.

Students are encouraged to take advantage of this great opportunity to enhance their learning.

At this time, parking spaces allotted for students have been filled. Grade 12 students who complete the Student Parking Application Form (using their Northeast email account) will be added to a waitlist. Students in good standing, as approved by their dean, will be contacted in the order of submission if additional spaces become available. We aim to make as many spaces available to students as possible.

All student vehicles parked on Northeast Metro Tech property must have a parking sticker properly displayed (affixed to the windshield above the inspection sticker on the passenger side).
