Northeast Metro Tech's April vacation will take place from Friday, April 18, through Friday, April 25. School will resume on Monday, April 28. As the days grow longer and the warmer weather settles in, we hope all students, families, faculty, and staff enjoy a restful and well-deserved break filled with sunshine and relaxation.
Student Parking Update for Juniors - Gold Weeks Only
As parking spaces have become available due to seniors being on co-op, a limited number of spots will be open to Grade 11 students for Gold Weeks only. Beginning Tuesday, April 22 at 12:00 p.m. (noon), interested juniors may complete the Student Parking Application Form to be added to a waitlist. Students in good standing, as approved by their dean, will be contacted in the order that the form was completed to purchase a parking sticker for $10 in the Business Office.
Please note: The form must be completed using the student's Northeast email account, and students will be required to upload a copy of their valid Massachusetts driver’s license and vehicle registration.
Juniors who receive a parking sticker may begin parking in the designated student parking areas on Monday, May 5. As additional spaces become available, Grade 11 students will be contacted in the order the form was submitted. We aim to make as many spaces available to students as possible.
Parking spaces reserved for students are located in sections A and A2 on this image. All student vehicles parked on Northeast Metro Tech property must have a parking sticker properly displayed (affixed to the windshield above the inspection sticker on the passenger side). Robotics Seniors Participate in Pintastic Pinball Show
On Friday, April 11, Robotics seniors attended the tenth annual Pintastic Pinball Show in Marlborough, MA. Since 2019, students have participated in the event, working alongside electronic engineers as technicians for the day to learn how to troubleshoot and repair pinball machines. With over 200 machines in operation, the expo provides a unique hands-on learning experience. The Pintastic staff looks forward to the students' involvement each year and have proudly named them the “Northeast Metro Tech Pinterns.”
Northeast Celebrates Chelsea Day
On Monday, April 14, Northeast celebrated Chelsea Day, recognizing the community partnership and the accomplishments of our students from Chelsea. Staff and students presented to local elected officials, sharing the positive impact Northeast has had on their lives and expressing pride in their hometown. Students also highlighted their involvement in SkillsUSA, Student Council, DECA, and the boys soccer team. It was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate student success and strengthen the connection between Northeast Metro Tech and the Chelsea community.
Alex Pappagallo Recognized by Massachusetts Partnership for Youth
On Wednesday, April 16, Alex Pappagallo, a sophomore in Design and Visual, was recognized for earning Honorable Mention in the Massachusetts Partnership for Youth (MPY) statewide PSA Poster Contest. MPY Executive Director Margie Daniels presented the award to Alex in the presence of his family and school staff. Alex’s artwork, inspired by the theme “CommUNITY – Together We Can Achieve Greatness!”, captured the power of unity and teamwork. Among numerous entries from across the state, Alex’s creativity and message stood out, showcasing his talent and commitment to positive change. Congratulations, Alex.
Shark Tank Makes a Splash at Northeast
Design and Visual (DV) seniors took center stage in the fifth annual Shark Tank event, hosted by Studio 12 instructor Mr. Peluso. Students pitched creative, innovative ideas to a panel of "sharks" made up of school administrators and industry professionals. The event showcased entrepreneurial thinking, presentation skills, and creative problem-solving, all key skills that prepare students for future success. Superintendent DiBarri summed it up best: "This is one of my favorite days of the year!" We are proud of our DV seniors for their professionalism and talent.
Sophie Grover Elected NEMASC Secretary at Spring Conference
Sophie Grover, a junior in HVAC, was elected Secretary of the Northeast Massachusetts Association of Student Councils (NEMASC) on Tuesday, April 15 at the annual Spring Conference held at North Reading High School. Competing among a strong group of candidates, Sophie addressed an audience of more than 230 students and advisors, delivering her speech with poise and clarity as she shared her vision for the role. After an initial round of voting resulted in a tie, Sophie advanced to a vote-off, where she emerged victorious. We are incredibly proud of her accomplishment and look forward to seeing Sophie represent our school and region in this leadership position.
Steven Romero Hernandez Featured on Channel 5’s High Five
On Tuesday, April 1, WCVB Channel 5’s Antoinette Antonio visited Northeast Metro Tech to interview senior Steven Romero Hernandez, who was named the school’s MAVA Outstanding Vocational Technical Student of the Year. Steven was featured in Channel 5’s “High Five” segment, which aired on Wednesday, April 16, and also highlighted Northeast’s Robotics program.
Salon at Northeast Cosmetology Fundraiser
Thank you to everyone who supported the Salon at Northeast Fundraiser on April 3 and April 17. Our Cosmetology students were excited to showcase their skills and appreciated the strong turnout. From tinsel and braids to glitter and colorful extensions, the events were a success.

Multicultural Night - Thursday, May 1, 2025
Northeast students and families are invited to join us for the third annual Multicultural Celebration Night on Thursday, May 1, from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. in the Northeast cafeteria. Enjoy an evening of food, music, traditional garments, live performances, artifacts, and more as we come together to celebrate the rich diversity of our school community.

Senior Prom Tickets - Deadline Friday, May 9, 2025
The Northeast Class of 2025 Senior Prom will be held on Monday, June 2, from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at Hilton Boston/Woburn in Woburn. Tickets are $50 each and must be purchased by Friday, May 9, at 2:30 p.m. Ticket sales will begin on Monday, April 28. Students must pick up a permission slip/contract from Mr. Kelly in room F601, which outlines important information and expectations for students and their guests. Advanced Placement (AP) Exams - Wednesday, May 7 - Friday, May 16, 2025
Advanced Placement exams at Northeast are scheduled from Wednesday, May 7 through Friday, May 16. The College Board website contains detailed AP information, including exam dates, exam timing and structure, and how to practice for AP exams. In classes, students have been preparing by taking mock exams, reviewing content, and discussing test-taking strategies. Students are encouraged to continue their independent preparation by accessing practice resources and reviewing the tips for building confidence for AP exams.

🚨Change to Black Days for MCAS Testing - Tuesday, May 20 & Wednesday, May 21🚨
To accomodate MCAS Grade 10 Mathematics testing, Tuesday, May 20, and Wednesday, May 21, will be changed from Gold Days to Black Days. Please note the following:
Grade 9 and 11 students will report to shops; Grade 11 students on co-op must report to shop.
Grade 10 and 12 students will attend academic classes.
Grade 10 students will test in the morning, then follow their academic schedule once testing is complete.
Grades 12 students on co-op may report to their placements; those who report to co-op will have their absences from academic classes excused.
Grade 12 Late Start for MCAS Testing - Tuesday, May 20 & Wednesday, May 21
On Tuesday, May 20, and Wednesday, May 21, Grade 12 students will have a three-hour late start due to MCAS Grade 10 Mathematics testing. A bus run has been added, with buses arriving three hours later than their regular arrival time to accommodate this schedule.
Seniors should arrive at 11:00 a.m. and report directly to their Related classes for attendance with their shop department head. They will remain in Related until 11:31 a.m., at which time they will transition to lunch or their D block class. For the remainder of the day, seniors will follow their regular academic schedule.
Please note this late start applies only to Grade 12 students. On these MCAS testing days, Grade 10 students will test in the morning and follow their academic schedule once testing is complete. Grade 9 and 11 students will report to shops, as both days are changed to Black Days. Grade 11 students on co-op must report to shop. Grade 12 students on co-op may report to their placements; those who report to co-op will have their absences from academic classes excused.
MCAS Grade 10 Mathematics Testing Information
In May, Grade 10 students will take the next round of MCAS testing. Throughout the year, students in the Class of 2027 have engaged in learning activities designed to prepare them for the Mathematics MCAS test. To further support their success, students are strongly encouraged to complete the online practice tests.
In the weeks leading up to the Mathematics MCAS test, Grade 10 math teachers will share information about testing procedures and preparation strategies. Students will be reminded to get eight hours of sleep each night, eat a healthy breakfast, and arrive at school before 7:45 a.m. so they are not rushed and have ample time to get settled. The use of electronic devices, including cell phones and smartwatches, is strictly prohibited during testing. If used, scores will be invalidated. Families are encouraged to discuss these guidelines with students. Most importantly, we wish Grade 10 students the best as they demonstrate their learning.
Participation in the MCAS is required by state and federal law. Test results will be used for school accountability purposes and eligibility for scholarships such as the Adams Scholarship, the Stanley Z. Koplik Certificate of Mastery, and the State Seal of Biliteracy. The new law did not change this requirement for students to test, and DESE’s accountability system will continue to use assessment participation rates, achievement, and growth data in annual district and school evaluations.
Students are no longer required to pass the MCAS as a graduation requirement. However, they must still earn a Competency Determination (CD) by meeting local graduation standards. This includes satisfactory completion of coursework that demonstrates mastery in English Language Arts, Mathematics, and at least one Science discipline (Biology, Chemistry, Introductory Physics, or Technology/Engineering). Important Reminders for Grade 10 MCAS Testing:
✅ If your Chromebook is damaged, turn it in to the Tech Office as soon as possible.
✅ Bring your fully charged Chromebook to school each day.
✅ Ask your math teachers questions about MCAS testing.
✅ Practice online at home to familiarize yourself with the testing format.

While the event is not ticketed, graduates are kindly asked to invite no more than four guests, as seating is limited and we want to ensure the comfort of all attendees within the venue.

Yearbook Orders
Saturday, March 1, was the final day for families to purchase a yearbook online. After this date, yearbooks may still be available for in-person purchase on a first-come, first-served basis for $95 with Ms. Pickles in Business Technology. The yearbook features students from all grades.
Ringer's Auto School is offering driver’s education at NEMT from Tuesday, May 13, to Thursday, June 12, on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:30-5:30 p.m. Students will be released in time for the late buses, which are available for Northeast students only. A Message From DESE: FAFSA and MASFA Reminder
High school seniors should complete their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or, for students who are eligible non-citizens, the Massachusetts Application for Student Financial Aid (MASFA). Both applications can make higher education more affordable. All federal and state student aid and some private sources require completion of FAFSA. Students must complete these documents for no-cost community college through MassEducate or access to MassGrantPlus, which can greatly reduce the cost of attendance for low and middle income students interested in Massachusetts public four-year colleges and universities. Early College Program Offers Exciting Opportunities for Students
Northeast Metro Tech is thrilled to announce its Early College partnership with Middlesex Community College and Boston Architectural College, enabling students to earn both college and high school credits simultaneously at no cost. Currently, over 100 Northeast students are enrolled in Biology, Chemistry, and Drafting and Design courses taught at a college level by Northeast faculty. We are actively exploring additional course offerings for the 2025-2026 school year.

After-School Academic Support
After-school academic support is offered for all subjects. Students can get the extra help they need to succeed, whether it’s for a challenging class, test preparation, or Early College courses.
Sessions (schedule) will be held Tuesday through Thursday in the Library from 2:35 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Students can take the 3:30 buses home after the session.
Students are encouraged to take advantage of this great opportunity to enhance their learning.

Eastern Bus Company - Drivers Needed
Eastern Bus Company is hiring bus drivers at a starting rate of $34.25 per hour with a guaranteed 25 hours per week (2.5 hours in the morning and 2.5 hours in the afternoon). A CDL B with a school bus endorsement is required. If you don’t have one, Eastern Bus Company offers training in Billerica and will assist with testing in exchange for a two-year contract.
Drivers can also earn extra with charters at a rate of $24.00 per hour, with 6 hours guaranteed during the week and 8 hours on the weekend.

Attention Student Drivers: No Parking in the Lot Across from Landrigan Field
This is a reminder that the parking lot across from Landrigan Field (formerly J Lot) is exclusively for Wakefield Memorial High School students. Vehicles parked in this lot without a WMHS hanging placard are subject to towing per the Town of Wakefield.
Cell Phone Policy
Students are expected to engage in learning opportunities in each class/shop throughout the school day. Cell phones and smartwatches distract students from participating in lessons, completing assignments, contributing to class discussions, and collaborating with teachers and classmates. Unsanctioned cell phone/smartwatch use during instructional time is prohibited. All learning spaces, including classrooms and shop areas, are equipped with cell phone holders near the teacher’s desk, where students must place their silenced devices upon arrival. Violations, including unauthorized photographing or video recording, may result in disciplinary action. Students are permitted to use their devices during lunch.
Emergency calls by students should be made in an administrative office, and families should contact Office A (ext. 1644) for individual student needs. Headphones/earbuds may be used for educational purposes only; otherwise, students should remove them. Bluetooth speakers are not allowed in the building.
Aspen Student & Parent Portal Information
Families are encouraged to have frequent conversations about their student's growth and development to support their ongoing success. To guide these conversations and monitor student attendance and grades, students and families should log in to Aspen regularly. Students and parents/guardians have individual accounts with access to different resources, so parents should not share their accounts with their student. Students should click the "Sign in with Google" button to access their accounts, while parents should use their assigned username and password.
