Grades 9 & 11: Shops (Remember to follow the dress code)
Grades 10 & 12: Academics

Grade 9 students will complete Shop Selection from Monday, April 14 through Thursday, April 17. To help guide families with this important step in the career technical education journey, we will be holding a virtual Shop Selection Presentation on Tuesday, April 8, from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m. During this session, Career Counselor Helen Rouse and Assistant Superintendent Tracey O’Brien will explain the shop selection process, offer tips on how to realistically approach ranking each shop, and answer any questions.
Students have already received the Shop Selection Signature Sheet in their history classes. This sheet is required to participate in the selection process. Students must:
- Rank their shop choices
- Have a parent/guardian sign the form
- Submit the completed sheet to Guidance Office C by Wednesday, April 9
Students will enter their ranked shop selections into Aspen during their scheduled time in the Career Center, using their signed sheet. Shop placement will be determined using the following tie-breakers, if necessary:
- Average exploratory points from all 15 shops
- Academic grade point average
We encourage all students to reflect on their exploratory experiences and make thoughtful choices as they finalize their shop selection.

She recently brought juniors to the “Is Accounting for Me?” seminar, where Northeast students placed 1st and 2nd in accounting trivia. This week, she accompanied sophomores to the Banking Bowl at the Federal Reserve Bank in Boston.
To celebrate her achievement, MassCPAs will award prizes to both Ms. Van Magness and the Business Technology department. Way to go, Ms. Van Magness.

On Wednesday, April 2, Carpentry students at Northeast proudly donated a handcrafted Adirondack chair to Keith’s Tree Service of Wakefield as a thank you for their generous log donation.
Two years ago, Keith’s Tree Service donated several logs to the Carpentry shop. About a year later, students used the school’s sawmill to cut the logs into slabs, which were then air-dried for another year. One of the logs, a beautiful and weather-resistant cedar, was used to create the chair.
Students who worked on the project included Isaiah Bueno, Victor Gonzalez, Steven Lawrence, Pierson Louis, Lucas Pereira, and Athena Vickers, all seniors. Their craftsmanship and gratitude were on full display through this thoughtful project.

On Wednesday, April 2, Health Assisting students visited the Museum of Science in Boston for a day of hands-on learning and exploration. On the evening of Wednesday, April 2, Culinary students participated in the 28th Annual A Taste of Spring fundraising event at the Crowne Plaza Boston Hotel in Woburn. Hosted in partnership by the Woburn Lions Club and NuPath of Woburn, the event supports both organizations in their ongoing efforts to serve the community.
In its fourth year of participation, Northeast’s Culinary shop gave back by preparing an array of gourmet cupcakes in a variety of flavors. The evening was a wonderful way to kick off the spring season, and our students' creativity, talent, and professionalism added a special touch to the meaningful event.

We encourage all students to explore and participate in extracurricular activities, whether it's joining a club, playing a sport, or engaging in community service. These opportunities are more than just enjoyable, they play a vital role in personal growth, well-being, and development.
Extracurricular involvement helps students build leadership skills, foster teamwork, and gain confidence in a supportive environment. It also promotes time management and problem-solving abilities, which benefit students academically and prepare them for future challenges. Additionally, participation cultivates a sense of belonging and connection to the school community, helping students form lasting friendships and create lifelong memories.
For more insights into how extracurriculars can benefit students, view this article from Child Focus.
All students are encouraged to discover their passions, enhance their well-being, and get involved in extracurricular activities. For more information about athletics and clubs, visit the Northeast website and click the Parents & Students tab. Families are welcome to contact their student’s counselor for assistance in exploring available opportunities.

Attending school every day is vital for student success. Regular attendance keeps students on track, builds strong habits, and strengthens their connection with the school community. Missing just two days a month - whether excused or unexcused - can quickly lead to chronic absenteeism and significant learning loss.
Families needing support are encouraged to contact us. View this helpful resource from Attendance Works for tips and strategies to support student attendance. Let’s work together to ensure consistent attendance and a successful start to the new year.

Students are expected to engage in learning opportunities in each class/shop throughout the school day. Cell phones and smartwatches distract students from participating in lessons, completing assignments, contributing to class discussions, and collaborating with teachers and classmates. Unsanctioned cell phone/smartwatch use during instructional time is prohibited. All learning spaces, including classrooms and shop areas, are equipped with cell phone holders near the teacher’s desk, where students must place their silenced devices upon arrival. Violations, including unauthorized photographing or video recording, may result in disciplinary action. Students are permitted to use their devices during lunch.
Emergency calls by students should be made in an administrative office, and families should contact Office A (ext. 1644) for individual student needs. Headphones/earbuds may be used for educational purposes only; otherwise, students should remove them. Bluetooth speakers are not allowed in the building.

Families are encouraged to have frequent conversations about their student's growth and development to support their ongoing success. To guide these conversations and monitor student attendance and grades, students and families should log in to Aspen regularly.
