On Wednesday, March 26, Northeast Metro Tech hosted a ceremony to honor Kacey Kellum, a senior Design and Visual student, for earning third place in the Massachusetts School Building Authority's (MSBA) Building a Logo contest. Open to public high school students in grades 10-12, the competition invited participants to contribute to the reimagining of the MSBA’s logo. Kacey was recognized for her achievement and presented with a $100 prize and a certificate of accomplishment by Treasurer and Receiver General Deborah B. Goldberg and First Deputy Treasurer & Chief Executive Officer of the MSBA James MacDonald.
The celebration included an intimate reception, prepared by our Culinary students, and was attended by Kacey’s family, Design and Visual instructors, and school administrators. Congratulations to Kacey on this well-deserved recognition.

On Wednesday, March 26, science teacher Sarah Pierce was recognized as a 2025 Massachusetts Trial Court honoree at the Annual Women’s History Celebration hosted by the Edward Kennedy Institute for the United States Senate. Joined by Northeast students, colleagues, and family members, Ms. Pierce accepted the award and delivered a heartfelt speech about the importance of inspiring women and uplifting the community.
Over the past eight years, Ms. Pierce has made an incredible impact at Northeast, coaching multiple sports, advising student clubs, and serving on key committees. She has also created meaningful service opportunities, including volunteering at the Revere Food Pantry in the aftermath of the pandemic.
Congratulations to Ms. Pierce on this well-deserved honor, and thank you for the passion and leadership you bring to our school community.

On Thursday, March 28, Northeast proudly hosted the Third Annual Second Chance Cars Learning Community Dinner, an event celebrating student success and community partnerships. Two of our outstanding senior Automotive students, Benjamin Srey from Auto Tech and Luis Villanueva Branciforte (pictured below) from Auto Body, were recognized for their dedication and achievement in their career technical programs, each receiving a Milwaukee tool set valued at approximately $500. Thank you to our Auto Tech and Auto Body instructors for their ongoing support and commitment to student success.
We would like to recognize the wonderful work of Second Chance Cars, a nonprofit organization committed to helping individuals access affordable, reliable transportation to support employment and independence. Special thanks to Dan Holin, founding director of Second Chance Cars, for his continued leadership and dedication to this mission.
A big thank you goes out to our Culinary students and staff for preparing and serving an amazing dinner that impressed all in attendance.

Sophomores Grace Bishop, Mirna Amaya Raudales, and Daniela Cruz Osorio from the Metal Fabrication shop proudly posed with the custom fire pit they designed and fabricated for the 2nd Annual SEPAC: A Knight Out on the Town – "Taste for Education" fundraiser.
The event, held on Thursday, March 20 at the Four Points by Sheraton in Wakefield, brought together community members in support of the Special Education Parent Advisory Council (SEPAC). The fire pit, created by our talented students, was donated as a raffle item to help raise funds in support of educational opportunities.
Great work, Grace, Mirna, and Daniela, your craftsmanship and generosity made a lasting impression.

Senior Taj Hosier, a Metal Fabrication student, is gaining valuable hands-on experience and finding success through her Co-op placement. Pictured below in front of the Randall Library job site in Stow, MA, Taj stands proudly with the steel framework of the building behind her, a structure she played a major role in bringing to life. As part of her Co-op job, Taj fabricated every beam and column seen in the project, with several more still awaiting installation. Her work is a powerful example of the real-world impact our students are making through their technical training and Co-op opportunities. Great job, Taj.

We encourage all students to explore and participate in extracurricular activities, whether it's joining a club, playing a sport, or engaging in community service. These opportunities are more than just enjoyable, they play a vital role in personal growth, well-being, and development.
Extracurricular involvement helps students build leadership skills, foster teamwork, and gain confidence in a supportive environment. It also promotes time management and problem-solving abilities, which benefit students academically and prepare them for future challenges. Additionally, participation cultivates a sense of belonging and connection to the school community, helping students form lasting friendships and create lifelong memories.
For more insights into how extracurriculars can benefit students, view this article from Child Focus.
All students are encouraged to discover their passions, enhance their well-being, and get involved in extracurricular activities. For more information about athletics and clubs, visit the Northeast website and click the Parents & Students tab. Families are welcome to contact their student’s counselor for assistance in exploring available opportunities.

Attending school every day is vital for student success. Regular attendance keeps students on track, builds strong habits, and strengthens their connection with the school community. Missing just two days a month - whether excused or unexcused - can quickly lead to chronic absenteeism and significant learning loss.
Families needing support are encouraged to contact us. View this helpful resource from Attendance Works for tips and strategies to support student attendance. Let’s work together to ensure consistent attendance and a successful start to the new year.

Students are expected to engage in learning opportunities in each class/shop throughout the school day. Cell phones and smartwatches distract students from participating in lessons, completing assignments, contributing to class discussions, and collaborating with teachers and classmates. Unsanctioned cell phone/smartwatch use during instructional time is prohibited. All learning spaces, including classrooms and shop areas, are equipped with cell phone holders near the teacher’s desk, where students must place their silenced devices upon arrival. Violations, including unauthorized photographing or video recording, may result in disciplinary action. Students are permitted to use their devices during lunch.
Emergency calls by students should be made in an administrative office, and families should contact Office A (ext. 1644) for individual student needs. Headphones/earbuds may be used for educational purposes only; otherwise, students should remove them. Bluetooth speakers are not allowed in the building.
|
|
Families are encouraged to have frequent conversations about their student's growth and development to support their ongoing success. To guide these conversations and monitor student attendance and grades, students and families should log in to Aspen regularly. Students and parents/guardians have individual accounts with access to different resources, so parents should not share their accounts with their student. Students should click the "Sign in with Google" button to access their accounts, while parents should use their assigned username and password.
For support using and navigating Aspen, take a moment to review the Aspen Parent Portal Information document and video, which can also be found under the Parents & Students tab on the NEMT website. Families in need of Aspen support should contact us at nex2@northeastmetrotech.com.
